Summer Sport Round 5

We seem to have had to wait a long time this year for a couple of normal, nice weekends for sport to take place. Saturday was another beautiful day for Summer Sport and Chev hosted Basketball, Touch Football and Cricket. Once again, the Chev facilities looked a treat.

The Cricketers had a great day for playing with some impressive batting performances. For the 1sts, Nick C. continued his fine form with 71 not out against St Gregory’s.

In the Junior game Rohan D. batted well for 34.

Unfortunately, the good individual batting was not supported and both Chev teams were defeated.

The Basketball Boys played against St Greg’s and Oxley. The B teams began the day with the 14s racking up a big win over Oxley with Adam I. and Marshall P. starring.

The 15s had a close game but went down by 5 – Chev’s best was Tate G.

The 13As came up against a very strong and tall St Greg’s team. Chev’s best was Cormac O.

The 14As went close with James S. dominating the Chev scoring with 16 of the 25 points.

In the MPH the 15A team was never ahead until the final minute managing to hold on for a 1 point win. Dyllan G. played well

The 17s likewise were very close, with St Greg’s just coming out on top. Matt B. and Charlie P. played well.

The 1sts played their best match of the season so far, and in a very good game ended up 5 point winners. Cameron D. was Chev’s best with Nathan B. also playing very well in a good team effort

The Touch Football games were fast and skillful affairs. In the boys, the Senior game went try for try, with St Greg’s getting up by one at 11-10. The Junior game ended up a bigger margin, but our boys keep improving.

The Girls games were all enjoyed and there were many bright, sweaty faces at the conclusion of games.

On Sunday, our Mountain Bike Team were over at Welby competing in the inaugural GD Champs — an interschool 4-hour mountain bike relay race commemorating the life of George Dummer, a talented mountain bike rider from the Southern Highlands and a past Oxley College student who sadly passed away from a heart attack earlier this year.

We had over 30 riders competing in the 4-hour Team Time Trial.

In very warm, dusty conditions the Chev riders all did the school proud and gave their best out on the track.

There were a few novelty events to show off a rider’s skill and Harry P. took out the bunny hop and wheelie categories. Luke S. also rode the fastest lap of the day.
